Dances Under the Crescent Moon ~ Saturday Show
Helene Eriksen's Traditional Dance Theater presents Dances Under the Crescent Moon, a showcase of traditional dances in spectacular costumes from Algeria, the Arabian Peninsula, Iran, Uzbekistan, Armenia, and from the Roma (Gypsy) communities of Hungary. With the idea that dance can facilitate a cultural exchange beyond stereotypes, politics and rhetoric, these dances were chosen to portray a diverse range of women's expression from cultures that are under-represented in our mainstream media.
Dance ethnologist Helene Eriksen has researched and performed dances of the Balkans and the Orient for over 27 years. An acclaimed international touring artist, she will be presenting exquisite solo dances as well as featuring her Seattle students in their first full evening performance. This event is the culmination of a nine month training project under Helene's direction.
