"Jwala" - Mythili Prakash - Indian Bharatanatyam Dance
Sruti is pleased to present an outstanding Bharatanatyam Dance performance by Mythili Prakash. Bios of dancers and musicians follow:

Mythili Prakash: Concept, Choreography, and Performance
A child prodigy, Mythili began her career as a Bharata Natyam performer at the age of eight. She was trained by her mother, Viji Prakash, and is currently under the tutelage of Indias master dancer, Malavika Sarukkai. Mythili has performed as a soloist around the world - the Madras Music Academy in India, The Lowry in Manchester, Musée Guimet in Paris, Esplanade Theatres in Singapore, and Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. She is recipient of the Creation to Performance Grant from Irvine Dance Foundation and the Artistic Innovation Grant from Center for Cultural Innovation. Her collaborations include Solea with Lynn Dally, which premiered at The Joyce, New York; Yashodhara with playwright Gowri Ramnarayan, which toured India and the U.S., and Svatantrya with Anoushka Shankar at Sadlers Wells, London, and Dortmund Koncerthaus, Germany. Her most recent collaboration with musician brother Aditya Prakash, MARA was staged at the Ford Amphitheatre in 2013 and 2016. Mythili is eagerly sought out as a teacher by young, aspiring students of dance. She conducts annual summer dance intensives at the Shakti School of Bharata Natyam, where students look forward to being trained by her and learning her choreography

Aditya Prakash: Music Composition and Vocal
Aditya is an award winning, American-born, Indian classical vocalist and composer. A disciple of Chennai gurus PS Narayanaswami and Palai CK Ramachandran, he also trained with Sugandha Kalamegham, Rose Muralikrishnan and Debur Shrivathsa, and studied mridangam with Neyveli Narayanan. Aditya toured with Ravi Shankar as lead vocalist in Shankars Festival of India III ensemble, and now performs solo Carnatic vocal concerts as well as collaborating with musicians like Karsh Kale, Salim Merchant and Anoushka Shankar. He has a degree in Ethnomusicology (performance/composition) from UCLA.

Rohan Krishnamurthy: mridangam
Having received advanced training from maestro Guruvayur Dorai in India,Rohan has shared the stage with the leading artists of Indian classical music and has also spearheaded collaborations with orchestras, jazz ensembles, and musicians including Grammy Award-winners Glen Velez and Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Anoushka Shankar, and Ayano Ninomiya. An acclaimed educator, Rohan earned a Ph.D. in musicology from the Eastman School of Music in New York.. He teaches in the Music Department at Ohlone College and directs the award-winning RohanRhythm Percussion Studio, which has attracted dozens of students from around the globe. An innovator, Rohan patented a new drumhead tuning system. His work resulted in a publication in the premier music journal, Percussive Notes, and was supported by the Eastman School of Musics Institute for Music Leadership. His design is now available worldwide.

Kasi Aysola: Nattuvangam
Kasi is Bharata Natyam dancer and choreographer who trained under Viji Prakash, and has studied and performed with other Gurus and artists, namely C.V. Chandrasekhar, Bragha Bessel, Ajith Bhaskaran Dass, Harikrishna Kalyanasundaram, and Mythili Prakash. He is co-founder/co-artistic director of Prakriti Dance, based in Maryland. As a nattuvanar, he has performed with Mythili Prakash, Janaki Rangarajan, and Ragamala Dance Company.

Anjna Swaminathan: Violin
A disciple of the late violin maestro Parur Sri M.S. Gopalakrishnan and Mysore H.K. Narasimhamurthy, Anjna has trained in both Carnatic classical and Western classical styles of violin. Apart from interdisciplinary collaborations involving theatre, jazz, and academic disciplines like gender studies, she developes scores and accompanies dance  most notably with Ragamala Dance Company. Anjna currently studies with acclaimed Carnatic vocalist T.M. Krishna, and Hindustani singer Samarth. She has a Bachelors degree in Theatre from the University of Maryland.
