Judy Garland Live In Concert: 95 Years of Magic - A Birthday Celebration benefiting the Southern California Motion Picture Council
(Los Angeles,CA) June 10, 2017 is Gay Pride in Los Angeles and it also the 95th Anniversary of the birth of the brilliant Judy Garland. As such it feels entirely appropriate to rediscover the music and legacy of Hollywood's golden age songbird.

The historic Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute is presenting critically-acclaimed Tribute Artist Peter Mac in his award winning musical recreation of a flawless triumphant 1960's-era Judy Garland. Additionally appearing onstage with "Judy" is Academy Award winner (and Judy Garland's close friend and co-star) the legendary Margaret O'Brien. These two icons will be appearing onstage for one night only in a brand new BENEFIT performance of Judy Garland Live In Concert: 95 Years of Magic - A Birthday Celebration.  100% of the proceeds from the show this evening will be donated to the Southern California Motion Picture Council.

Thats right Judy is turning 95 and you are all invited to celebrate with her in this very special cabaret concert and benefit extravaganza . The Rainbow diva will spend the evening reminiscing about her fascinating life. Her illustrious career as a film star during Hollywood's Golden Age. Her triumphant concert comebacks at Carnegie Hall and the Palace, her friendship with President John F. Kennedy, and so much more.  All told in her own words and music. So expect those classic Garland standards to be on tap from: The Man That Got Away, to The Trolley Song and of course, Over The Rainbow. Also expect the unexpected via a few musical AND theatrical surprises!

The entire show is sung live by Peter Mac who has won awards and critical-acclaim for his accurate and loving portrayal of the woman Tony Bennett called "The World's Greatest Entertainer."  Though June 22, 2017 will mark the 48th Anniversary of Judy's untimely passing at the tender age of 47.  Mac treats Judy as if she never left us.  Mac is back in Los Angeles after a 2 year full-time sold out run in Boston at the legendary nightclub Club Cafe in a venue specifically redesigned as a dinner theatre to house Peter's performances.

At this performance on June 10th the legendary Academy Award winner Margaret O'Brien herself will be joining "Judy" onstage for a recreation of Judy's infamous Tea For Two segment from her TV show as well as some special musical surprises.   At one of the many nights that Margaret O'Brien attended a performance of Peter as Judy, she brought Peter a note and said to read it onstage, but not beforehand. The note read, "Have a great opening! Sorry we couldn't be with you tonight. All the best on a successful run. Love, Joey Luft and Liza Minnelli."

Talk about emotional. The Garland heirs are very wary of Judy impersonators - especially in the gay community - because they often play up or make up negative aspects of her life. Mac puts it best: "Judy's perceived problems were a very small thread in a very large tapestry in an AMAZING life and career. And that's not why Judy's so loved and well remembered.  She was not a tragic figure."

Judy Garland Live in Concert! is a loving and affectionate tribute to the World's Greatest Entertainer.  It is both critically acclaimed and award winning.  Peter Mac as Judy Garland won the prestigious Southern Motion Picture Council Award for his "Live Performances as the Great Judy Garland".  The award was presented to him by Margaret O'Brien and the late great Mickey Rooney in a gala celebration.  Mickey Rooney in his presentation speech about Peter as Judy said onstage to a capacity audience: "This is beyond an imitation. Peter Mac is Phenomenal!"

Recent celebrities in Mac's audiences include Mila Kunis (star of That 70's Show and Oz the Great and Powerful) Mila said "Peter Mac is Judy Garland. Run! Don't walk. I can not wait to see this show again!"

We believe a legend never dies! So won't you join us for this guaranteed unforgettable one of a kind musical performance?  Come see the show that more than 2.8 Million people have already seen from coast to coast.  Peter Mas as Judy Garland has been performing live for the last 14 years from his birthplace New York City to his adopted hometown Los Angeles.

Showtime is 8pm at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute located at 7936 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA 90046. There are General Admission tickets available as well as a limited amount of VIP level tickets.  That features better seats as well as a VIP Meet & Greet with Peter Mac and Margaret O'Brien after the show.

All proceeds will be donated by Peter and his Husband Dr. John Mac 100% to the Southern California Motion Picture Council (a registered 501-3C in California), Council President the legendary Randal Malone said "The Council is honored to be working with Peter Mac who is keeping Judy Garland's memory alive for generations to come. We appreciate the financial support this event will provide to continuing our tradition since 1936 of celebrating the best in motion pictures."

The Southern California Motion Picture Council is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1936 to promote the best in motion pictures.
