Voices of Radical Education
The Hudson Valley Sudbury School was founded in 2004 with the belief that all members of the school community are equal. The school is operated as a participatory democracy where each student has the same voice and vote as each staff member.
This equality and the respect given to the students creates an environment that goes beyond traditional education. At HVSS students realize that they are responsible for themselves and their community. They know that their opinions, thoughts, and ideas are listened to and that they can make a real difference.
Staff and students from the school will share their personal stories about the school. These powerful stories will give an idea of what can happen when children are honored as equals and the difference this can make in the world.
