Dance Migration at the Parodos Festival
Since its inception in 2007, Dance Migration has produced full-length dance works in some of Toronto's most prestigious theatres. Recent shows include Terra Brasil and Os Elementos at Fleck Dance Theatre; Luminato, Guelph Jazz Festival, Afro Fest, Brazil Fest, and Harbourfront Centre's Hot and Spicy Festival.
Dance Migration has gained international recognition, having performed in Brazil, Ecuador, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Belgium, and in October 2014 Dance Migration toured a 90 minute production through 26 cities in the Netherlands.
The diverse dance/movement forms that inspire Dance Migration are Silvestre Technique, Orixa movements, Afro-Brazilian dance, Samba, Capoeira, Contemporary dance, and Classical dance. Our dancers regularly travel to Brazil for advanced training.
In January 2015 Dance Migration & ELD films came together to film The Dance Migration Dance Documentary in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. This past September 2016 Dance Migration produced its new work of GAIA- a ground-breaking show about the female experience featuring Juno nominated Artists Aline Morales and Rich Brown.
Adrianna Yanuziello is the founder and artistic director of Dance Migration. Adrianna and the dancers of Dance Migration travel yearly to northeastern Brazil to intensively study regional dances in their native context. This ongoing training with Brazilian masters has allowed them to present authentic dance productions and share knowledge of Brazilian culture with Canadian and international audiences. For the last 10 years they have worked in collaboration with master teacher Rosangela Silvestre, with the goal of building global awareness of contemporary Brazilian dance.
