| Description |
_gaia is proud to be a participant in the 2008 V-Day Campaign. Producing Eve Enslers award-winning play, The Vagina Monologues to raise money and awareness for local organizations that work to stop violence against women and girls. This year, marks a very special year for us! We are celebrating 5 years of ending violence towards women and girls in New Jersey, New York City and beyond. Join us this year on March 30th at 3pm with an opening performance by SiGi in Jersey City, New Jersey. This years V-Day's 2008 Spotlight Campaign focuses on the Women of New Orleans and the Gulf South. Now is the time to change the story towards women - do this in any way that comes to you.
In 2007, V-Day happened in over 1,087 venues around the world, with 2,100 performances of The Vagina Monologues. In 2008, Jersey City will be one of thousands of events around the world channeling their creative energy into making a difference as part of the V-Day Campaign. It is our intention to make V-Day 2008 Jersey City a huge success. The campaign is being produced by _gaia - a collection of women artists that work to actively support the creativity of local women. Proceeds will benefit WomenRising of Hudson County (www.womenrising. org). Governed and managed by women, WomenRising assists women and their families to achieve self sufficiency and live safe, fulfilling and productive lives, through social services, economic development and advocacy services.
In addition to benefiting local anti-violence groups, ten percent proceeds will go to this years V-Day international spotlight theme, V-Days 2008 Spotlight Campaign focuses on The Women of New Orleans and the Gulf South. These women - Katrina Warriors - have come to symbolize the universal plight of women in conflict zones--high levels of violence; economic hardship; racism; and public structures that failed to protect them. Katrina Warriors also highlight the dire need for resources to this still devastated community. (http://www.vday. org)
