Island in the Sun (A tribute to Weezer)

Four guys, different hair-dos, different records, different tattoos, different instruments
Founded by frontman Matthew Masini in early 2007, Matthew got together with a group of friends to pay homage to one of his rock icons, Weezer. The 4-some enjoyed immediate success playing the PDX underground. Inspired by fellow fans, Matthew decided to put together the ultimate Weezer Tribute band. To fill out the Weezer rawk roster, Matthew got together with Phoenix native and guitar hero, Joe Ebner. Seattle's drum god Mattie stepped in on drums and finally, bassmaster Randy Gerhart dove in. The band spent several months in a rehearsal room pounding out songs til the final product was deemed rawk-ready. Island in the Sun combines solid vocals and harmonies from all 4 members, a cosmic light show, and an unsurpassed live sound experience.
What is that in the background?

6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Kate & the Crocodiles

A refreshing and innovative classically-trained female vocalist; a colorful, energetic, and soulful keyboardist; along with an amazing drummer and an intuitive trumpeter from Pink Martini doing stunning originals and re-conceptions of stuff from Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Nat Cole, Louis Prima, Louis Armstrong, Pat Benetar, April Smith, Yves Montand, and more.

Kate Morrison -
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Kate began vocal training during junior high school, studying throughout high school and college in Pendleton, Oregon, and Walla Walla, Washington. Performing in competitions for classical vocal music, she placed in the top 10 vocalists in the State of Oregon and won many awards, including the coveted National Arion Award for Music.

Gavin Bondy -
Gavin began studying trumpet in Portland, Oregon, at the age of nine, piano at the age of 12, and voice at the age of 17. Years later, amidst doubts of his peers, he began to quietly prove he could make his entire living as a freelance musician in the city of Portland. He played trumpet in every imaginable circumstance: wedding ceremonies, musical theater, foot races, national anthems, polka, mariachi, salsa, gospel, R&B, funk before joining Pink Martini in 1996. A few years later, Gavin founded The Shanghai Woolies. To this day, the Woolies play hot jazz and pop from the 1920s, 30s, and 40s, employing electric guitars alongside clarinet and banjo. Gavin wrote the original music book by hand, in order to enjoy some of the greatest music of the twentieth century with a world who had largely forgotten. Among its highlights are 27 transcriptions of early Louis Armstrong band performances.

Craig Bidondo -
Originally from Alaska, Craig studied piano and music composition in Los Angeles before moving to the Portland area to embark on a career as a soloist and group artist throughout the Northwest, exploring jazz, classical, rock, new age, and gospel music. In 1997 Craig co-wrote the award-winning musical, Look At Us Now, and served as the pianist and music director for the Tapestry Theatre production. Later, from 2006 to 2007, Craig directed the music and played keyboards for the Portland production of Menopause  The Musical for more than 290 shows, the longest-running production in the history of Portland Center for the Performing Arts.

Brent Follis -
Raised on a farm in Southern Illinois, the first thing Brent Follis can remember is picking up a pair of wooden spoons, and tapping out rhythms on some old popcorn tins.
Since then, his journey in music has led him cross country and around the globe, in search of inspiration and culture. After receiving his degree in Advertising and music performance from Southern Illinois University, he transplanted himself in the fertile soil of the Pacific Northwest.  It was in Portland, Oregon where he befriended Ghanaian master drummer Israel Annoh, who continued to shape Brents style and voice on the instrument.  After a decade of performing, traveling, and soaking in the vibe of the Big Apple, he made the sojourn back to the Rose City, where he maintains a busy recording and performance schedule and can be found backing up many talented singer-songwriters, jazz, and pop artists.
A jazzy little ditty about Prince Charming

7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
The Sarah Clarke Quintet

Sarah Clarke is a native of Portland and has a past filled with singing accolades. Her innate ability to connect and hypnotize an audience is parallel to no other. Sarah's wide range of abilities turn each performance into one of magic. In addition, she is also a very proud mother of Donovan George, her adorable three-year-old son and soon to be band member.

8:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Redwood Son

Originally hailing from Northern California, before relocating to Portland Oregon, Redwood Son has been an Indie Artist on the Rise.  "His Songwriting combines the grittiness of Ryan Bingham, the swagger of Eric Church, and a laid back vibe reminiscent of Jack Johnson" says Grammy Nominated Producer Dave Brainard.  Depth and Dimension are his Friends but don't be surprised if You find yourself singing and bopping along to a stable of catchy songs that come from Life's Trials and Triumph.
After a coming out of the gates hot in late 2008, Redwood Son found himself almost completely lost in the fall of 2009, when original drummer and long time Friend Kipp Crawford was tragically killed.  It was a long road back, and on the heels of that tragedy, Redwood Son was named "Best New Artist" of the 2010 Portland Music Awards.  In June of 2011, he followed with a Double-Debut Album titled "The Lion's Inside" which showed up some of the prolific songwriting prowess that dwells inside this Artist.
The Debut Album was promoted heavily over the course of the next 2 years, prior to finding it's way into the hands of Producer Steve Berlin of the Band "Los Lobos".  A natural evolution towards Country Music had been taking shape on the road, and oddly enough, the follow-up effort found a genre of its own when Redwood Son self-released the "Westicana" EP in the Spring of 2016.  Only 6 of the 11 Tracks were featured in the teaser, and a Full-Length is set to be released in the Spring of 2017.
With a solid following and fanfare residing in the Great Pacific Northwest, it was time to make yet another move.  In late 2016, Redwood Son relocated to Nashville TN, after being selected as a Top 4 finalist in the Eckrich "Music City Sing Off" which took place at the Famous Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, as part of their 58th Year Celebration.
Landing in Nashville was a long time coming, and it's only a matter of time before Music City discovers this hard working, blue-collar artist.  The future looks promising.
