RWO Mainstage: Numbers / Dates
RWO continues our 2013-14 season with the first-ever complete performance of Thomas Limbert's NUMBERS / DATES, a multi-movement work for voices, instruments and electronics that explores "Emotional Prosody" - a study of human speech in different states of heightened emotion - using recordings of actors speaking random numbers and dates. The featured emotions include "hot anger", "panic", "sadness", and many more!
RWO will also present a new commissioned work by Travis Sullivan and Jamia Wilson, expressly written to accompany Limbert's piece. Sullivan composed THREE MODERN PIECES for string quartet and voices, satirizing current hot-button political topics, and weaving different numbers and dates throughout the work.
Ruby Fulton and Jeff Brunell's THE BALLAD OF JAMES PARRY explores how our daily communication is being replaced by virtual communication and the exchange of data. Fulton's work was originally written for chorus, and will be presented by RWO in a version for both recorded and live voices.
