ONLINE ADVANCE SALES ARE NOW OVER - TICKETS AVAILABLE ON THE DOOR

Join us at St Luke's for the chance to enjoy a unique orchestral collaboration - bringing together one of Scotland's most idiosyncratic, important songwriters and Edinburgh's groundbreaking youth music orchestra.

Kathryn Joseph - winner of the SAY Award 2015. (solo)

Scotland's red queen of heartache needs no introduction. 2015 saw this well-hidden, humble presence on the Glasgow music scene finally release 'bones you have thrown me and blood i've spilled'. The clarity and courage on that record quickly brought Kathryn Joseph word-of-mouth success, and the audience her talents so clearly deserved. Bringing together stark arpeggios, an ear for arresting lyrics and a soaring vocal delivery, these songs borne out of darkness shone, and continue to shine.

Since 2015 Kathryn has collaborated with the likes of James Graham (The Twilight Sad), Scottish Ballet, and fellow SAY Award winner RM Hubert. For this evening's show she will perform solo, before joining the orchestra for some collaborative works.

Tinderbox Orchestra - album launch show

2017 is proving to be a massive year for Edinburgh's alternative youth music orchestra. Having run countless workshops and productions since their inception in 2010, the organisation has inspired hundreds of young musicians across Scotland, giving them the chance to play with renowned bands and composers, and develop their musical abilities.

Working with both local and international talents, the orchestra already have collaborations with My Brightest Diamond, DaWangGang, Broken Records and North Atlantic Oscillation under their belt. This year sees them step forward to release their own material.

Debut single 'Quetzalcoatl' was premiered as a BBC Introducing track on Vic Galloway's show in January, with follow-up 'Bethany Lane' released in April. The album as a whole demonstrates an omnivorous approach to genre, and a remarkable technical versatility - featuring contributions from over 200 young people, it explodes preconceived notions of what an orchestra looks and sounds like.

For this show the orchestra will also be joined for a short set by Chinese hero of the avant-garde Song Yuzhe (DaWangGang). ('One of the strangest, most oddly compelling albums of the year'  - The Guardian).
