Become a New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science scientist for a day! Investigate Museum exhibits, examine our fossils and specimens, speak with our paleontologists! Each day we will explore a different science topic utilizing all the expertise the Museum has to offer! Classes are for kindergarten through 5th grade junior scientists!
Classes will meet from 9am-4pm, with lunch around 11:30am-12:15pm. Before care is available from 8 am-9 am and aftercare is available from 4 pm-6pm for an additional fee for each. Choose a one day class or purchase 2 or 3 classes together! Come for all 6 and get a discount! 10% discount for Museum members.
December 26, 2012 -- Prehistoric Creatures!
Did you know that the oldest known mammal fossil ever discovered is on display at our Museum? Learn more about adelobasileus and all the other prehistoric creatures as we trek through geologic time in the Museum!
December 27, 2012 -- New Mexico Naturalist!
Did you know the Gila Monster is the largest lizard native to the US and is one of only a handful of venomous lizards? Join us as we search the Museum for our elusive bats!
December 28, 2012 -- Gems, Minerals, and Volcanoes!
Did you know that the youngest lava flow in NM is only 3,500 years old? We will journey through a volcano and erupt one of our own in this explosive class!
January 2, 2013 -- Flying Monsters!
Did you know a pterosaur is not a dinosaur? Come soar with these prehistoric flying monsters in our 5 story DynaTheater!
January 3, 2013 -- Crazy Climate and Weather!
Did you know mammoths roamed New Mexico during the ice age? We will discover why we still get snow in the desert in this dynamic class!
January 4, 2013 -- Amazing Astronomy!
Did you know that the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science has a Martian meteorite on display? Drive a mars rover and survey the NM night sky in our planetarium in this out of the world class!
If you wish to purchase any of the 6 days individually,look for a separate Brown Paper Ticket listings.
BEFORE CARE AND AFTER CARE
You may register for before care and aftercare on Brown Paper Tickets at same time of registration for your class. Or you may take advantage of our before care and aftercare on the day of your class. Member will receive 10% discount for before care or aftercare if preregistering for all 6 classes on Brown Paper Tickets. Before care is available from 8 AM-9 AM for an additional fee of $10. Aftercare is available from 4 PM-6PM for an additional fee of $20.
Before and aftercare can be paid by check or cash at the time of drop-off or pick-up. No discount available for member.
WINTER WEATHER EVENTS
Safety is our primary concern for both our teachers and your campers. We will follow Museum protocol in regards to weather related closure or delays. In the event of Museum closure or delay, make-up classes will be offered if possible and at the sole discretion of Museum personnel. Please call the Museum Weather Number at 841-2800 option 8 for delays and closures.
YOU NEED TO KNOW
All campers must be picked-up by 4:00 PM. Campers still at the Winter Science Program after 4:10 PM will automatically be enrolled in our aftercare program. Payment for aftercare must be made by cash or check at time of camper pick-up.
-Our camp instructors are teachers or scientists. They have all completed first aid and CPR. All instructors submit to a background check before teaching camp.
-Please note that Museum staff cannot take responsibility for dispensing prescription or over-the-counter medications.
-Campers are required to provide their own lunch, snack, and drink. Campers must wear appropriate clothing and shoes for active learning.
The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science reserves the right to cancel any event that does not reach a minimum of 6 participants.
There will be no additional fee when you complete your camp purchase.
