Ferocious Intimacy
Stand up for yourself Be vulnerably present Show up in your life Interact with exuberance Inhabit your own nature Connect tenderly with others Express yourself powerfully Take risks Live passionately
There are countless reasons why we shut down our own brilliance. On the one hand, society discourages us from growling with animal passion, asserting ourselves vigorously, or fiercely insisting on our boundaries or our preferences. On the other hand, we seldom have the opportunity to tenderly hold other people with nourishing human contact, or to be held by others in our vulnerability and to be cherished despite our feelings of brokeness.
We all have these feelings of ferocity and tenderness. We must feel safe in order to be vulnerably intimate, and a part of that safety is being confident in our own ability to say "no" and take a stand for our boundaries. In this workshop you will get to actually inhabit these and many other human energies. Push people around, bump into others, get rowdy, get gentle, get sweet. There's room for all of you here.
Let Coach Basin push you a bit into pushing others a bit. Stretch into unfamiliar parts of yourself. Learn what it feels like to be bigger than usual, so that you can call on those parts of yourself when you need them.
A videotographer will document parts of the workshop, and with your permission your dancing will be recorded. After the workshop some of your experience will be compiled into a video so that you can watch yourself and remember what it felt like to be big and bright. If you feel brave enough, you may also share this video with friends or post it to Facebook or other social media sites to let them see you being gloriously you in dance. This recording will be provided to all workshop participants for free. You also have the option of purchasing an extended version that includes interviews with you and additional footage.
No previous experience is necessary for Level 1.
December 1, 2012 from 12:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Workshop fee is a sliding scale of $40-$75. The workshop, including your personal video, is valued at $75, but if that fee prohibits you from attending then pay what works for you. Work trade arrangements are also possible for further fee reduction. These fee accommodations are so that no one that wants to attend should hold themselves back. After all, this is a workshop about showing up!
