Making Musical Instruments from 'Stuff'
Learn to make simple musical instruments from household materials and/or other found items. Here's an opportunity to explore some unique hand crafted gift ideas for the holidays or just to have some fun.
Some materials will be provided for some examples that will be demonstrated. You can also bring some materials from home and experiment with your own designs. A few suggestions: wine corks, rubber bands, tin cans (ideally 2 of each kind), inexpensive beads or small pebbles, sewing supplies, etc.
Herb Moore bio: In addition to his noteworthy credentials in various conventional musical genres, Herb Moore has been a practicing 'scrapophonist' for over 4o years. He has included scrapophony (the art of making music found sounds) in numerous performances and recordings. He has been featured in several SF Bay area news articles. Moore defines scrapophony as an exploratory approach that focuses on repurposing odds and ends that we might normally throw away to create music.
