Dacher Keltner at Las Positas College / Livermore, CA / May 4, 2017
DACHER KELTNER is a professor of psychology at UC Berkeley, faculty director of the Berkeley Greater Good Science Center, and  director of the Berkeley Social Interactions Lab.

Dr. Keltner is an outstanding speaker and researcher whose work is at the forefront of a new scientific movement that explores the roots of kindness, gratitude and compassion, and teaches us the skills that can foster a happier, more meaningful life and a thriving, resilient, and more compassionate society.

Dr. Keltner is the best-selling author of Born to Be Good: The Science of the Meaningful Life, and The Compassionate Instinct, and The Power of Paradox. He has also authored more than 100 scientific papers and two textbooks, Social Psychology, and Understanding Emotions.

He has also collaborated on projects at Facebook and Google and was the scientific consultant for Pixar's highly acclaimed animated film Inside Out, for which he helped revise the story to accurately reflect the latest scientific Understanding of emotions.  

ABOUT THE DISTINGUISHED SPEAKERS IN PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAM

The Las Positas College department of psychology regularly presents world-class speakers and events for students and Tri-Valley residents.  A frequent Las Positas College visitor was the late Kim Peek, the mega-savant who inspired the Oscar winning film, Rain Man.  Other speakers have included such notables as Dr. Temple Grandin, the worlds most well known and most accomplished person with autism; Stanford professor Dr. William Dement, the Father of Modern Sleep Science;  Dr. Robert Sapolsky, Stanford professor and leading authority on stress and health; UC Berkeley psychology professor and mental health expert, Dr. Stephen Hinshaw; Harvard professor, best-selling author and leading authority on ADHD; National Spokesperson for the International OCD Foundation, and long-time KCBS News anchor, Jeff Bell; and Radio and TV talk show host and mental health advocate, Brian Copeland.
