Sparkles and Jiggles
This two hour workshop will entail both dancing and discussions. Zayna will begin with a discussion on the origins, different types, and evolution of belly dance. After a warm up, Zayna will take you on a sensual journey of shimmies and undulations with bellyesque choreography. This workshop ends with a cool down and a discussion on cultural appropriation in burlesque and how to find inspiration in belly dance and other dances of the world without being appropriative. Bring your sparkles and jiggles, and come dance and learn with us!
Cost: $25
Instructior Bio: Growing up in Morocco, Zayna began dancing when she was just 5 years old. After taking dance classes ranging from ballet to hip hop, Zayna found that her true passion was belly dance. When she moved to the United States as a young adult, Zayna dabbled with belly dance fusion, playing with movements from Charleston, modern dance, street jazz, and burlesque and creating choreography with a melting pot of cultural influences.
Today, Zayna specializes in Moroccan tribal dances and belly dance fusion, and she performs and teaches raqs sharqi, chaabi dance, Moroccan tribal dances, and belly dance fusion across the East Coast.
