Rhapsody In Swing
Rhapsody in Swing A New Year's Eve Celebration is a production filled with the greatest hits from the 1930's and 1940's jazz age in USA. Rhapsody in Swing is inspired by the iconic Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin and uses musical themes from that piece throughout the evening as a musical bridge. From the opening clarinet glissando through the tap dancing enthusiasm in Anything Goes! the evening features 10 very talented singers and dancers backed by a 17 member jazz orchestra. The show is set in a 1940's style American nightclub on New Years Eve 1945. The set consists of a classic art deco style bandstand and nightclub seating. You will see guests arrive, excited about the evenings events, the band performs with an beautiful girl singer, the maitre' d and the cigarette girl are featured performers and everyone celebrates another New Year as midnight approaches. Our cast includes award winning professional talent like Mary Harrod the band singer who holds her MFA in vocal performance and sings Solitude. Jeff DeBoer, who plays a zoot suited character of dubious reputation and opens the second act with Jump, Jive & Wail. Michael Greenlief and Summar Jonas play two young adults out for their first big night on the town. Joshua Ishmon and Kyleen Linsemeyer our featured dancers will dance in the style of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in Cole Porter's Night & Day. Lindsay Foreman, Michael Ohm, Bryce Shaffer and Kyrie Anderson round out our cast and will impress with their renditions of I Don't Want to set the World on Fire, Tuxedo Junction, Don't get Around Much Anymore and as the vocalist on Night & Day. All these performers will be costumed in luxurious gowns and evening attire as will the jazz orchestra. Lighting will add a rhapsodic look for the audience to enjoy.
