| Description |
South Bend, IN - The Midwest's premiere traditional Irish band, Kennedy's Kitchen, plays tear-up-the-floor, heart-thumping Irish music. Their heart-wrenching traditional ballads and foot-thumping original compositions are intermingled with stories, jokes, other frivolity and astonishingly large tales. Kennedy's Kitchen have entertained audiences throughout the Midwest with their own special sound for the past ten years, including a 2006 performance with Tommy Makem and the Chieftans at Notre Dame's DeBartolo Performing Arts Center. JoHn Kennedy, the leader of the contrived confusion, is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist musician and promoter who believes strongly in bringing the Irish message in song and story to all who will listen. He staunchly believes in promoting all that is Irish in the community to everyone, regardless of heritage. JoHn is the 2004 All-Ireland Fleadh Silver Medalist, and 2003 Midwest Fleadh Gold Medalist in Accompaniment, competing on guitar. He also took first place in the 2004 and 2005 Midwest Fleadh in Traditional Irish Singing (ballads, English language). He has appeared onstage with the great concertina player John Williams, and with Mick Maloney. During the intermission, meet the band and enjoy a free St. Patrick's reception hosted by Biddy Murphy Celtic Goods. Biddy Murphy is presenting many educational and fun family activities at 610 Phoenix St. over St. Patrick's Weekend, including Irish dance lessons, Irish language classes for beginners, Irish poetry and essay readings, children's activities, and traditional Irish breakfast samples.
