The Poet's Voice
SAN DIEGO, CA- In April 2017, SACRA/PROFANA will present a series of concerts to celebrate National Poetry Month. The Poets Voice will aptly be presented at La Jolla Riford Library and Encinitas Library and will feature the texts of masters such as Shakespeare, Dickinson, Rumi, and Neruda with choral settings by well-known and emerging composers.
In this concert, SACRA/PROFANA will be guiding the audience on a global journey through poetry. The Poets Voice truly turns traditional programming convention on its head. The program is grouped by a number of renown poets and showcases different composers interpretations of them. This literary and musical exploration will demonstrate the beauty that can be found in different artistic interpretations. After the success of last years Romance Isnt Dead library presentations, this ensemble is eager to return to this befitting setting to give these beloved poets their voice.
The Poets Voice will feature some familiar choral works, several hidden gems, and the World Premiere of Songs with Flowers a series of pieces composed by SACRA/PROFANA core singer Colin Barkley with text by Emily Dickinson. The choir is also thrilled to include the talented San Diego Childrens Choir in these concerts who will lend their voices to celebrate the poets who provide the text for stunning choral music.
SACRA/PROFANA continues to celebrate diversity and the collaborative spirit and engage all generations during its 8th Season.
