Citizen Artist
What do you truly care about, deeply and passionately? How can you tie your creative work as a theater maker to these core values? What really matters to you? This 3-day workshop digs into these central questions. Led by foolsFURY artistic directors Ben Yalom and Debórah Eliezer, and Michael Rohd, founding director of the Center for Performance and Civic Practice, this workshop will help you articulate your values, and provide tools for turning them into rich creative work. It will also feature presentations by artist-activists from related fields that will be informational and inspirational, and will culminate in short student-created performances.
At a time when civic discourse and value-centered thought is desperately needed, this workshop will challenge you to:
- Push beyond your preconceptions or what you care about - Inspire new ideas and ways of working with others on topics of personal relevance as an artist - Catalyze individual action through artistic expression - Learn creation skills that you can use in the studio, classroom, or beyond - Find and use community to support and develop your work - Gain skills in collaborative performance, voice, improvisation and more. - Explore how to combine your core beliefs and views with performance skills.
Come away with applicable tools for the classroom, the studio or the stage.
