Improving Results in the Permian Basin Using Tailored Frac Placement Strategies
Abstract: The Permian Basin contains a vast array of oil and gas producing reservoirs within the Delaware and Midland Basins. Within these basins, multiple formations are targeted for stimulation and production including the Wolfcamp, Spraberry and several other formations. Due to the variability in rock and reservoir properties between different formations, and oftentimes within the same formation itself, well placement and corresponding stimulation programs need to be tailored to each reservoir to optimize production. This presentation describes formation specific well placement and frac design strategies currently being employed to maximize production in various formations within the Permian Basin. Variant parameters include landing depths, stage spacing, perforation strategies, fluid systems, proppant types and total volumes pumped. Given the current economic climate, emphasis will also be placed on approaches being used to simplify operations and minimize cost while meeting the stimulation objectives (complexity, conductivity, propped fracture height, etc.) of the target formations.
Presenter: Travis Marvel, Energen Resources Bio: Travis Marvel is a Staff Completions Engineer at Energen Resources. He currently is working in the Delaware and Midland Basins with emphasis on the Midland Basin. He served four years in the Marine Corps before graduating from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering.
