CELEBRATES HIS 40 YRS IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY!
Jazz-funk Great Norman Connors lands his Starship Orchestra at The Berkeley Black Repertory Groups Birel L. Vaughn Theater for a great night of music with trumpeter Tom Browne. Connors is best known for hits featuring Michael Henderson ("You Are My Starship") and Jean Carn ("Valentine Love"), and has worked with Gary Bartz, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Herbie Hancock. A drummer, composer and producer, he has developed music for a variety of artists and is best known for his R&B, jazz and ballad arrangements. His recent work is on the smooth jazz end of the spectrum as displayed on his 2009 album Star Power. Guest trumpeter Browne first gained notoriety performing with Sonny Fortune and later scored top ten R&B singles with "Funkin' for Jamaica (N.Y.)" and "Thighs High (Grip Your Hips and Move)."
