History Hike: Homesteads and Ranches
Before it became a state park, the area that is now Sugarloaf was inhabited by a large number of small farms and ranches, most of which were grants of public land made under the Homestead Act. Join park history docent, Larry Maniscalco, for a short hike along Hillside and Meadow trails with stops along the way to learn about these homesteads and ranches, with particular emphasis on the Hurd family's Bear Creek Ranch. Meet at the White Barn (upper parking area) at 10:00 a.m. Bring a lunch and explore other parts of the park following the history hike.
