The "Kinda Like Us Tour" Kickoff
The Bad Tenants
Based in the Pacific Northwest, The Bad Tenants is what happens when hip-hop and blues get drunk on whiskey and wine then make a baby.
Rap renaissance man. Self-sufficient music machine. Chance writes, produces, records, engineers, mixes and masters all his creations himself. The production? A dirty martini with equal parts drums that crunch and gracefully mangled sampleds. The raps? A gravelly, deliberate shot of whiskey. When the combination kicks, the buzz eases into a mix that Seattle's the Stranger calls "the RZA on 'ludes". His groups--Cute Attack, the Knowgooders, Pretty Killers--get healthy pours and his colleagues--Ricky Pharoe, Selfsays, the Bad Tenants and more--get a round on the house. Neat, of course.
Along with the rest of the Knowgooders, Chance has shared stages with the likes of Mr. Lif, One Be Lo, Josh Martinez, Grayskul, Moka Only, Grieves, and the Sandpeople. As a solo act, Chance has rocked with Open Mike Eagle, the MC Type, Sapient and more. Chance is also prolific as possible, dropping no less than seven projects in 2011 and four more slated for 2012, including his solo full-length debut, the Pretty Killers full-length debut, a Knowgooders EP, and a collaboration EP with Thaddeus Gincig of the throwback hip-hop duo Something Else. With no lack of material, it makes every show a bit new, a bit different, a bit fresh. Kind of like Chance.
