Choralfest Jazz Spotlight Concert 2017
Choir Alberta presents the Choralfest Jazz Spotlight Concert, March 11 at Wine-Ohs.
Featuring performances by Toronto's HEATHER BAMBRICK (Female Vocalist of the Year at Canada's National Jazz Awards), renowned Edmonton based ensemble FORM, and Calgary's outstanding BISHOP CARROLL VOCAL JAZZ ENSEMBLE.

HEATHER BAMBRICK
Heather Bambrick has been wearing many hats for many years and all of them fit her well! Shes a Juno-nominated vocalist, voice actor, broadcaster, and educator, working with some of the best in the business.
Heather has performed internationally collaborating with artists such as Phil Nimmons, Fred Hirsch, Gene DiNovi, Guido Basso, Lea Delaria, Anne Hampton Callaway, Carol Welsman, Jackie Richardson, Ian Shaw, as well as the late Rob McConnell and Peter Appleyard. She is a founding member of the Beehive Singers (1994 2001) and Broadsway, a Jazz / Cabaret ensemble with whom she is currently actively recording and touring. Heather has been a guest performer with various Jazz ensembles, as well as with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, the Cathedral Bluffs Orchestra, and the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. She will make her debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 2017.
Heathers solo recordings include Its About Time and Those Were The Days, both of which were nominated for East Coast Music Awards, and resulted in international airplay and critical acclaim. Her latest solo recording, Youll Never Know, was nominated for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year at the 2017 Juno Awards (Canadas version of the Grammy Awards). Its been praised by critics and industry leaders (Heather hits every right note on this record its a must hear Mark Rheaume, CBC Radio), and has risen to the top of Canadian Jazz radio charts. Heathers been a guest artist on numerous diverse projects, from the Caliban Bassoon Quartet, to Sophisticated Ladies (the final recording of Jazz great Peter Appleyard), and Just Passing Through (the award-winning recording from Jeff and Don Breithaupt). She has been honoured with Canadas National Jazz Award for Vocalist of the Year.
Heather is a graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty of Music Jazz Studies program, and has taught at University of Toronto, Humber College, and the Royal Conservatory of Music. She remains active as a clinician and vocal coach at schools and music festivals across Canada.
BISHOP CARROLL VOCAL JAZZ ENSEMBLE directed by Andrea Ciona
Imagine a school with no bells, no classes. Students learn what they want, when they want and how they want. This is Bishop Carroll High School. Canadas flagship self-directed learning school has been on the cutting edge of educational pedagogy for over 45 years. A truly inspiring place to teach and learn, Bishop Carroll serves close to 1300 students from around the city of Calgary. The Bishop Carroll High School music program is incredibly dynamic and vibrant, with 19 performing ensembles, including Bands, String Orchestras, and Choirs. Bishop Carroll High School has six choral ensembles, including two award winning vocal jazz ensembles, an auditioned chamber choir, concert choir, touring choir, and ladies choir, all under the leadership of director, Andrea Ciona. Choristers work with many world class clinicians and conductors, through an ongoing partnership with Mount Royal University. John Morgan, director of the Mount Royal Kantorei Choir, has been the choral accompanist at Bishop Carroll for the past seven years, and also regularly coaches the groups as a choral clinician. The Bishop Carroll Vocal Jazz ensemble features 12 auditioned members from the Bishop Carroll High School choral music program. The ensemble is dedicated to singing and performing high level, challenging vocal jazz repertoire, exploring many styles and eras. The ensemble regularly performs at music festivals, school events, and local events, and has been recognized with top honors locally and internationally, including winning first place at the Beijing International Music Festival. The Vocal Jazz ensemble has performed alongside many prominent artists, including the Kenyan Boys Choir, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, and as featured performers at local United Way campaign events, and the Mayors Lunch in Support of Arts Champions.

FORM is one of three vocal ensembles in T.I.M.E Today's Innovative Music Edmonton. Formed in April 2002, the mandate of T.I.M.E. is to provide with the highest level of musical training in contemporary vocal music for small ensembles. FORMs repertoire includes traditional and current vocal jazz as well as a-cappella music of all sorts. They come together twice a week to share good singing and laughing. Over the years FORM has had the opportunity to attend several national and international vocal festivals and they are excited to be once again perFORMing at Choralfest!
