This is a long awaited and over due event sure to get your body moving! Many people have heard the music or seen the dance, which they love, without the knowledge that it is from the Congo, SOUKOUS that is! Soukous is the party music of the Congo in Central Africa. It originated in the late 1930's in Zaire, now known as the Democratic Republic of Congo, or DRC. Whether you know it as kwassa-kwassa, soukous, or ndombolo, it's all Congo and guaranteed to make you have a good time. Feel free to google or youtube popular Soukous artists over the decades to the present such as: Papa Wemba, Kanda Bongo Man, Diblo Dibala, Pepe Kalle, Koffi Olimide, JB M'Piana, Extra Musica, or Werrason. Though it originated in the Congo, Soukous can be heard throughout Africa, the U.S. and various places around the globe.
This is an Adult event, as there is a CASH Bar (sorry children). There will be light refreshments/snacks. There will plenty of great music and good people. SPACE IS LIMITED so, grab a friend and get your tickets now! There may even be a mini Soukous dance lesson earlier in the evening so don't wait too late to show up. I'm sure the invited Congolese guests of Congo Week, Jacques Ibula (Kinshasa, Congo) and Kevin Mfinka (direct from Paris, France) will make an appearance. So, come on out, meet folks, enjoy yourselves, laugh, chat, and DANCE, DANCE, DANCE! The party starts as soon as YOU get there so don't turn into a pumpkin before you arrive, party is 8p - Midnight! Oh, yes, and don't forget to wish LaKiesha a Happy Birthday......
