"A Senior Moment", A Senior Prom for the 50+
The Village Project and the Bayview Y
Celebrate San Francisco's Senior Community
Tuesday, October 23
What:  The Village Project and the Bayview Y will present 2nd annual, "A Senior Moment", on Tuesday, October 23, at Yoshi's and the Jazz Heritage Center. Senior community members who have given their time and dedication to serving their communities will be recognized. This year's honorees are Ms. Ann Cater & Mr. Robert Reece, both from the Western Addition Senior Center; Mr. I. W. Klein, Episcopal Senior Communities (ESC), Ms. Evelyn Joplin, King/Garvey Housing Co-op, and Ms. Verlie Pickens from Bayview/Hunter's Point Multipurpose Senior Services.  There will be a dinner reception/ awards presentation  in the Lush Life Gallery, featuring Freddie Hughes doing some blues; dancing in the Koret Lobby with a DJ spinning oldies - but goodies from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's; along with more blues by Adrian Costa & the Blues Persuasion in the Yoshi's lounge.  Join us for "A Senior Prom for the 50 +" and enjoy tantalizing food, dancing, no host bar, raffles and plenty of fun.  
When:  Tuesday, October 23, 2012.  6 pm to 11 p.m.
  6 pm: Wine/Dinner/Awards - Lush Life Gallery
             7:30 pm:  Performance:  Freddie Hughes - Lush Life Gallery
  8:00 to 11 pm: Dancing to 50's, 60's 70's & 80's:- Koret Lobby - DJ
             9:00 Performance: Adrian Costa & the Blues Persuasion - Yoshi's Lounge

Where:  Yoshi's Lounge/Jazz Heritage Center, 1330 Fillmore
Cost:  Free for the 50+; Juniors under 50:  $20 Donation

Community partners are The Fillmore Center Plaza, Episcopal Charities, The Jazz Heritage Center/Lush Life Gallery, Yoshi's, The Jewish Community High School of the Bay, Episcopal Senior Communities, Terri's Boutique, La Boulange Bakery, The Fillmore Farmers Market, Western Addition Family Resource Center, Planet Fillmore Communications, Gussie's Chicken & Waffles,  King/Garvey Housing Co-op, St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church,  St. Mary's of the Virgin Episcopal Church, Western Addition Senior Center, Bayview/Hunters Point Senior Services, Renaissance Parents of Success. This community event is funded by a grant from the Dept. of Public Health.

Adrian Williams is Executive Director and founder of the Village Project, a service organization focusing on education and cultural enrichment for youth and their families in the Western Addition. The Village Project produces family/community events, including most recently, Grilling in the MO' held on June 9th at Hamilton Rec. Center and our upcoming 8th annual Kwanzaa Celebration (Dec. 26  Jan 1), along with Mardi Gras San Francisco Style/ Fat Tuesday in the Fillmore to be held on February 12th.

NOTE: The Village Project's free after school enrichment program is underway. The program site is located at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, 2097 Turk Street. Program hours are from 2 pm to 6 pm, Monday  Friday for youth 6 to 14 years old and their families.
