Impassioned Embraces: Short Pieces of Love and Theatre by John Pielmeier
Coined "the city's theatrical absurdist aces" by The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Idiopathic
Ridiculopathy Consortium will present an evening of short comedic pieces ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime in Impassioned Embraces: Pieces of Love and Theatre, running throughout November at L'Etage Cabaret in Philadelphia.  Ticket sales will support costs for the IRC's February 2013 production Paradise Park by Charles Mee.

Ridiculous twists and absurdities abound in the nine short pieces, a witty and often hilarious revue featuring monologues and musings on love, life, and creating theater -- a tour de force of peculiar passions spotlighting the often perverted corners of American life.  This mélange of mania and mirth represents the lighter side of playwright John Pielmeier, the award-winning author of Agnes of God.  The IRC returns to the lively and intimate L'Etage Cabaret for this performance, where they staged their first production in 2006.

Impassioned Embraces will run for seven shows on Sundays and Wednesdays throughout
November: Sunday, November 4, Wednesday, November 7 (No performance Sunday, November 11), Wednesday, November 14, Sunday, November 18, Wednesday, November 21, Sunday, November 25 and Wednesday, November 28.   The curtain for all shows is 7:30 pm.

Impassioned Embraces' cast includes IRC stalwarts and new faces to the IRC stage: Colleen Hughes, James Kiesel and Sarah Schol, teaming up with IRC regulars John D'Alonzo, Emily Kleimo, David Stanger, and Lou Seitchik, all of whom appeared in the IRC's 2012 Live Arts and Fringe production Ivona, Princess of Burgundia by Polish playwright Witold Gombrowicz.  Tina Brock, the IRC's Producing Artistic Director, will direct.

2012 marks the IRC's seventh season presenting difficult and rarely-produced absurdist gems from authors from around the globe.  Proceeds from Impassioned will support the IRC's February 2013 production of Charles Mee's Paradise Park, which takes us to a dreamlike amusement land featuring magical visits to the gateways of America.  The inhabitants of this curious carnival play land include an Edgar Bergen-like ventriloquist and his dummies, a teenage girl on the run, and an assortment of charming and disarming existential hitchhikers.

Playwright John Pielmeier began his career as an actor, working at Actors Theatre of Louisville, the Guthrie Theater, Milwaukee Rep, Alaska Rep, Baltimore's Center Stage, and the Eugene O'Neill National Playwrights' Conference. It was at the O'Neill that his play Agnes of God was first staged. A co-winner of the Great American Play contest, Agnes premiered professionally at Actors Theatre of Louisville; that production was followed by several regional productions and a seventeen-month run on Broadway. His other plays include Voices in the Dark, Haunted Lives, Courage, The Boys of Winter, Sleight of Hand, Impassioned Embraces, Steeplechase The Funny Place, Young Rube, Willi, The Classics Professor and Slow Dance With A Hot Pickup.
