Two hundred years ago this autumn, a child was born in Southern Germany who would grow up to become one of 19th-century Europe's most enigmatic and compelling figures. At the age of 16, this strange boy appeared on the streets of Nuremburg, barely able to stand, walk or speak. In Kaspar Hauser: The Open Secret of the Foundling Prince, historical facts and characters mix with a supernatural tale of a golden house, a wicked stepmother, and a boy kept in a dark cellar for most of his childhood. Who was he? And why does his story still affect us?
Through drama and masterful storytelling, award-winning New York actor Glen Williamson has created an epic fairytale with historical interludes, including esoteric interpretations as well as the latest scientific research about Kaspar Hauser. This performance is part of a tour this fall of the UK, Ireland, the US, and Canada, as well as a special performance in Basel, Switzerland at an international conference on Kaspar Hauser. The solo production comes to Hadley, MA on Saturday, October 27, 2012 for one performance only. The performance runs 2 hours with an intermission. Live music provided by The Hadley Lyre Ensemble. Glen Williamson, a founding member in New York City of The Actors' Ensemble and New Directions Theater, appeared in numerous productions with both companies, as well as with Walking the dog Theater. He currently plays multiple roles in seven productions touring throughout North America and in Europe. Glen's performance of "Beat the Devil! Faust, the Whole Story" won the award for Best Adaptation at the United Solo Theatre Festival off Broadway in 2011. His production company Anthropos (the Greek word for human being) seeks to uphold and celebrate what is truly human through the arts of theater and storytelling. Visit AnthroposTheater.com.
