Author Stephanie Coontz has addressed these questions on Oprah, The Today Show, CNN, CBS News, and has lectured all over the United States, Europe, and Japan. The challenges we face as parents and partners today, she says, are the flip side of the gains we have won.
When a marriage works well today, it is fairer, more fulfilling, and more loving than most couples of the past ever dreamed. But the same things that make marriage so satisfying also make it more work.
