October Dinner Meeting & Program
"Updating the Top Risks Facing Architects & Builders in Sustainable Design Projects"
Presented by Bill Dexter
Please join us for this succinct overview of the broad spectrum of issues and considerations facing design professionals and construction firms as they undertake work under new Green Building Codes and the USGBC Certification Standards. With the advent of new concepts, materials and methods aimed at promoting sustainable design, architects, designers, engineers & contractors and their subcontractors are all facing a new set of legal risks, unique to the new technology of designing and building in the 21st Century. Sustainable project designers and builders must now look to the complete set of contract documents to insure that they are not stepping into the world of "green" liability
Contract documents should address the environment of conflicts arising out of sustainable systems performance from a position of a possibly uninformed client base. Participants in this dinner program will learn why the design professionals and contractors must take a lead role in providing risk management for all documents that describe the green project and its benefits. The presenter will explore the issues of the current application of green codes as well as the implications created by the LEED rating system.
