Composing Classical Music Today

2523 P Street, NW
Washington, DC

How does a composer work? In a unique presentation to the Beethoven Society, Dr. Jonathan Leshnoff, an emerging young composer of classical music and Associate Professor of Music at Towson University, will describe the creative process from ideas to final product, using a score and recorded excerpts.

Dr. Leshnoff will describe the technological aspects of composition and the use of computer programs in composition. He will also discuss the networking involved among performers and publicists for moving a composition into the music industry, as well as the development of commission agreements, and issues around copyrights and royalties. Business aspects and the business manager will also be discussed.

This will be a fascinating window into things you never imagined about how a composer functions in todays world! Please visit Dr. Leshnoffs website for additional information: www.jonathanleshnoff.com.
