Sowing Seed: Rachel Nelson & Patty Kakac in Concert
Sponsored by Arts on Superior, this Fall Concert offers two longtime musical friends the chance to play together. Longtime collaborators, each has played on the others' CDs. Expect to hear some of those cuts recreated live on stage, with each musician backing the other and singing harmony. Stories and banter will be lively.
"We love playing together, but it doesn't happen often enough. So we made each other a pact: 'I'll get us a place to play in my town, if you get us a place to play in yours,'" says Nelson. "Arts on Superior offered to help me keep my end of the bargain. We chose the theme Sowing Seeds because Fall is that time when the deepest seeds are planted and the ground lies fallow, dreaming deep."
Patty Kakac lives and works on a farm in NW Minnesota, where she sings with Patty and the Pinetones. She got her start singing in public and writing songs during the NW Minnesota powerline protests, working with Paul and Sheila Wellstone. Later, she worked for a decade in the duo The Granary Girls. Her original songs are always influenced by the land she lives on. "Both parents instilled in me the love of nature and the earth. So much of the songs I write and sing celebrate that love." Patty's solo CDs include Heart of a Woman and Patchwork, and her CDs with the Granary Girls are Sowing Seeds and Wild Roses.
Nelson lives in Two Harbors, playing solo and in collaborations around the Twin Ports and also working as a storyteller and theater artist. Her CDs include Change is a Thousand Hearts and "I'm Awesome!" said the Possum. Her musical theater creations include Living the Questions and The Urban Hermit. More info at www.bardlive.com
