dA Center Presents A Tribute to the Life and Music of Danny M. Diaz
dA Center for the Arts is a non-profit Center focusing on Art, Music and Literature to the under-served community of Pomona Valley. Sunday Feb 12th (1PM) dA Center will be honoring Mr. Daniel Modesto Diaz. Diaz has had a remarkable music career, first as a band member of The General Store, who opened for Grateful Dead, Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly and more. Later he became a Pioneer of Music Education by giving lessons at the famed Johnny Thompson Music Store in Monterey Park from 1968-1978. More than a dozen of his former students and associates made names for themselves in the music industry and tribute part of their success to the musical influences of Diaz. Musicians like Steve Campos, Adrian Monge Mike Albert (Megadeth) Johnny Vatos & John Avila (Oingo Boingo) Delgado Brothers (2016 Intl. Blues Champions) Bob Robles, Carlos De la Paz, Michael Tovar, Sammy Sanchez, Luis Ruiz, Ronny Reyes, Ernie Salas, Joey Guerra just to name a few.
In the winter of 2016 Industry Veteran Joanne Ledesma volunteered to help Danny with his dream to someday have an album of his own compositions. With virtually no budget (except for the $1500 we raised for duplication, licensing and few ancillary costs) Ledesma pushed forward not only with the record, but also volunteered to create a documentary to reveal the nature of Diaz legacy and the significant roll he has played in the history of of Music coming from the San Gabriel Valley.
At age 70 he has defeated cancer 3 times and lives on a fixed income in Pomona, CA We ask that you join us in donating funds in exchange for attending his event and assist the dA center for preserving and hosting events like this in the Pomona Valley.
