Music at CUUC Presents: Friends of CUUC Chamber Music Concert
Music at CUUC presents Community Unitarian Universalist Congregations Music Director Adam Kent with guest artists mezzo-soprano Anna Tonna, violinists Elena Peres and Claire Chan, and cellist Sibylle Johner in a program of vocal and chamber works. The much-anticipated annual collaborative music event has come to be known as Friends of CUUC by local audiences.
Long noted for her immersion in the Spanish and Latin-American song repertoire, Ms. Tonna performs excerpts from the Tonadillas and Canciones amatorias by Enrique Granados, in honor of the sesquicentennial of the composers birth in 2017. Settings of traditional Sephardic melodies by Joaquin Nin-Culmell and a text by the 16th-century Spanish mystic St. Teresa of Avila arranged for voice and piano by Carlos Surinach complete Ms. Tonnas group. Ms. Peres and Mr. Kent perform Mozarts charming two-movement Sonata for Violin and Piano in G Major, along with Tchaikovskys poignant Meditation. The concert closes with Brahmss C Minor Piano Trio, one of the colossal masterworks of the chamber music repertoire, in a reading by Ms. Chan, Ms. Johner and Mr. Kent.
The performance begins with a brief Music for All Ages presentation.
