Palace Theatre - Silverton - Grand Opening
An early morning fire April 11, 2012 caused extensive smoke damage to Silverton's Palace Theatre, a classic art deco / streamline moderne styled movie theatre which has been in continuous operation since its opening in 1935.
Neighbor Carla Mahler was walking her dog Boomba and noticed the fire, and she quickly alerted the Silverton Volunteer Fire Department. The Silverton firefighters' immediate response and effective fire suppression brought the fire under control very quickly - but the damage was done.
It was a small, hot fire that destroyed the snack bar and lobby area, and created an incredible volume of smoke that permeated the entire building and its contents.
The full story is already well-known to the community and need not be repeated here. Suffice it to say that The Palace has been restored to operation and this is the Premiere Performance.
The net proceeds of the ticket sales for this Premiere are being given to the Silver Falls Fire District in appreciation of their quick and effective response to our disaster. Without them, the Palace would be gone forever.
Tickets for the Premiere are $15 per person (plus Brown Paper Tickets handling charge). Regular operation of The Palace will resume at regular prices Saturday the 15th.
Doors open about 7:00 PM and the feature presentation ("The Odd Life of Timothy Green" from Walt Disney Studios) will start about 8:00 PM.
We are also featuring free preview 'walk through' tours at the theatre on Friday the 14th starting at 4:00 PM so folks can get a good look at the restoration. Timestamped tickets for the free tours are available at Silverton Downtown merchants.
On-Line Premiere ticket sales end at 5:00. Remaining seats will be sold at the theatre boxoffice starting at 7:00 PM.
