As one of Israel's finest writers and columnists, Gail Hareven writes widely on politics and feminist issues for Israeli and English publications, teaches feminist theory, conducts writing workshops and lectures on a variety of socio-cultural topics. She is a prolific author of novels, short stories, non-fiction, children's books and successfully staged plays. In a collaborative project, Hareven translated Shakespeare's Sonnets into Modern Hebrew. "I fell in love with the text in a way that was like being possessed by a dybbuk (demon)it's as if an alien force completely takes over your brain," she says, and suggests Shakespeare and the biblical Song of Songs are the cultural basis upon which humanity learned to love
