Pedro Infante Y La Suegra Triunfante
General Information:
The play is part two of a planned trilogy.  Each play is presented in Spanish, with English supertitles, and celebrates the music of a specific region of Latin America.  The first, CUMBIA DE MI CORAZÓN, focused on the classic rhythms of Colombia, and was presented at the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts of Los Angeles in 2010.  The present work draws from the eternally popular hits of the great Mexican crooner and cultural icon, Pedro Infante.  The third will be based on Cuban melodies of the 40s and 50s.

Synopsis:
Five characters accompany the protagonist, Doña Francisca on her rambunctious quest for a place to call her own. Feeling trapped in the U.S., where she lives with her daughter, Abuelita Pancha longs to return home to her México lindo y querido.  Trying to escape, she ends up in a curious limbo where she meets a certain popular singer she adored in her youth.  Could he be the one to liberate her from her doldrums, and show her the way home?  Ahí viene Pedro Infante!

LA FUNDACION BILINGUE DE LAS ARTES:
The Bilingual Foundation of the Arts (BFA) has a 38-year history of commitment to all people in the greater Los Angeles area, presenting the finest Hispanic literary culture for both Spanish- and English- speaking audiences.  BFA's presence is an integral part of the Los Angeles cultural scene, and provides an added dimension of understanding between the diverse cultures of the area by emphasizing the similarities of the human condition, which serve to unite us.

BFA was founded in 1973, inspired by actress and community leader Carmen Zapata.  The artistic director is playwright and director Margarita Galban.  Its productions celebrate the richness and diversity of classic Spanish and contemporary Latin American theatre.
