Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Comedy Returns to El Rio! is a popular monthly comedy show (every 3rd Thursday of the month) co-produced by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's Lisa Geduldig and El Rio. The show, now in its 8th year, takes place at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District and showcases an eclectic, multicultural mix of intelligent, progressive comedians from the Bay Area and beyond.
This month features Marga Gomez, Matt Gubser, Priyanka Wali, Nick Leonard, and Lisa Geduldig.
Marga Gomez has appeared on LOGOs One Night Stand Up, Showtime's "Latino Laugh Festival, Comedy Centrals Out There" and HBOs Comic Relief at the invitation of Robin Williams who called her Amazing a lesbian Lenny Bruce. She has been a guest on leading comedy podcasts Marc Marons "WTF," "The Keith and The Girl Show and Kevin Allison's "Risk." Her comic style has been described as deliciously cheeky and incendiary by the New York Times and salaciously surreal by the San Francisco Chronicle. The SF Weekly named Gomez one of 2016s Artists To Watch. Huffington Post named her an "Agent of Change" in 2015. She is also a GLAAD Award winner, a Theater LA "Ovation Award" winner, and triple winner of the San Francisco Bay Guardians Best of The Bay Comedian Award and multiple of The Bay Area Reporter's "Bestie Award." Marga is currently working on her 12th solo play, "Latin Standards," which will premiere in New York in January. Matt Gubser performs across the country and internationally, touching on topics ranging from fatherhood, dating, sex, politics, and religion, intermingling personal anecdotes and biting social commentary, all couched in a comfortable, relaxed delivery. He was named Comedians Comedian in the 2014 Bay Area Stand Up Comedy Awards. He is a contributor to Savage Henry Magazine, is part of the Ha Ha Heathens comedy tour, and produces comedy shows around the San Francisco Bay Area. Matt is a Northern California native and Bay Area resident. He enjoys sculpting, buying books faster than he can read them, and basketball. He has three exasperating daughters. Priyanka Wali is a stand up comedian by night and a doctor by day. She performs throughout California including corporate gigs, casinos, and comedy clubs. She has been featured in Women's Health Magazine, The Today Show, Uproxx.com and Cosmopolitan.com. Nick Leonard performs his dry and sly humor at clubs around California and all over the world including Marsh Theater, NYU, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The San Francisco Fringe Festival, and the Vancouver International Comedy Festival. He is the co-founder of the Qcomedy Showcase (currently on hiatus) and the popular Bilarious Show in the National Queer Arts Festival. He also performs regularly as his alter ego Ginorma Desmond.
Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer whos the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy (now in its 24th year); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; and A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion. She moonlights as a bilingual (Spanish-English) publicist.
