Sanctuary: A Medieval Murder Mystery
Its 1349, a tumultuous time in England. Edward the Third is King, desperately trying to restore order after the disastrous reign of his father. The Black Death (Plague) is at its worst, well on the way to destroying one-third of Englands population. Pope Clement the Sixth is forced to grant remission of sins to all Plague victims because so many are dying without benefit of clergy. In this time of chaos, young Thomas Fletcher is accused of murdering a young girl and claims Sanctuary in a small chapel overseen by Father Amaury DGodfrey. Thomas swears he is innocent of the crime, but can offer no proof. The Kings Knight responsible for law & order in the area agrees with Thomass accusers, and is prepared to hang the boy. Father Amaury is torn between his duty as a priest, his friendship with the Knight, his fondness for the murder victim, and the possibility that Thomas may indeed be innocent. In the midst of this dilemma, Father Amaury is visited by his younger sister who brings tragic news from home that could force the priest to make a terrible choice. A complex plot, realistic characters, and a surprise ending combine to make Sanctuary: A Medieval Murder Mystery a very satisfying night of theater.
