Masterclass with Veit Helmer / Berlin & Beyond 2012
Veit Helmer will show some hilarious behind-the-scene footage from his film Baikonur, and discuss the difficulties of raising an international coproduction and shooting with a multilingual crew in remote territories.
Veit Helmer studied film at the Munich Film School HFF and became known for off beat short films. Among other things, he co-produced Wim Wenders's "A Trick of Light" in 1996. Helmer made his feature film debut with "Tuvalu", which won a host of accolades such as a Bavarian Film Award for best young director in 1999. His third feature film "Absurdistan" premiered in Sundance and has received awards at numerous festivals. Besides fiction films, Veit Helmer directed three documentary films. He became member of the European Film Academy in August 2002 and has hold lectures at film schools in Beirut, Tbilisi, Djakarta, Tashkent and Bogota.
