Songs of Love and Nature: Krista River, mezzo-soprano and Stephen Porter, piano
Join us for an evening of art songs inspired by love and nature with Krista River, mezzo-soprano and Stephen Porter, piano.

Hailed by Opera News for her lovely clarity and golden color, mezzo-soprano Krista River is a versatile performer who is at home in repertoire ranging from the Baroque period to the 21st century.  She was a winner of the 2004 Concert Artists Guild International Competition and a 2007 grant recipient from the Sullivan Foundation.  Recent notable performances include the International Water and Life Festival in Qinghai, China, and recitals at Jordan Hall in Boston and the Asociación Nacional de Conciertos in Panama City, Panama.  The New York Times praised her debut recital at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, lauding her shimmering voice...with the virtuosity of a violinist and the expressivity of an actress."

Joining Ms. River is Stephen Porter, piano; he has appeared as a soloist in London, Paris, Sarajevo, Lake Como, Istanbul and Rio de Janeiro, among other cities. His recent New York recitals at SubCulture, the Fabbri Mansion and Symphony Space have been praised by the press, with New York Arts calling Mr. Porters 24 Debussy Preludes a powerful revelation...as if the voice of the composer were speaking to us. The Boston Musical Intelligencer says his performances are simply spellbinding and "reach the level of sublimity,"and in the acclaimed new biography Beethoven: Anguish and Triumph,
author Jan Swafford describes his playing of the Appassionata as unforgettable. He has been artist-resident of the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, the featured soloist of the Bosnia International Music Festival, soloist with the Amadeus Orchestra of London at LSO St. Lukes, and the guest on NPR's Diane Rehm Show in Washington, D.C.
