The Choral Project presents STREET REQUIEM featuring Frederica von Stade
The Choral Project proudly presents Street Requiem composed by Kathleen McGuire, Andy Payne, and Jonathon Welch. This beautiful, powerful piece was selected as a semi-finalist and awarded a Special Citation for dignifying the homeless through song by The American Prize Professional Choral Composition in 2015.
Street Requiem was composed for choir, soloists and orchestra by Kathleen McGuire, Andy Payne, and Jonathon Welch. It premiered in Melbourne, Australia, in 2014 and has since been performed in cities across the United States including Dallas, San Francisco, Boston, and in New York at Carnegie Hall receiving widespread praise. A deeply spiritual work it evokes a sense of hope in the face of challenging times. The Requiem is a cathartic composition that takes us on a journey through the streets to remind us of our humanity and interconnectedness and renew our optimism in light at the end of even the darkest tunnel. Joining The Choral Project on stage will be internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano, Frederica von Stade, accompanied by the San José Chamber Orchestra comprised of some of the Bay Area's finest musicians. Local favorite, jazz soloist Juanita Harris rounds out the roster of an amazing complement of performers for this truly moving composition. Join us for what will be a spiritually uplifting evening.
