TOPIC

If you earn your living as a freelancer, it's essential to have great client relationships. This event will help you take good care of those all-important relationships and yourself too. Topics include building rapport with new clients and securing repeat work, the elements of a good contract, how to get paid when they're not paying, and how to fire a bad client.



SPEAKERS

Sharon Aschaiek (@sharonaschaiek) is a writer, editor and communication consultant who focuses on the higher education sector. She works with universities, colleges and education associations to conceptualize and develop communication projects such as newsletters, special reports and blog posts. Also an experienced and award-nominated journalist, Sharon writes about education trends and issues for consumer and trade publications. Sharon volunteers as chair of Professional Independent Communicators, a special interest group of the Toronto chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators.


Marjo Johne (@marjojohne) has been a freelance writer for close to 23 years. Her byline has appeared in a number of periodicals and magazines, including The Globe and Mail, National Post and Medical Post. As a marketing copywriter, Marjo has written for such clients as Microsoft, AT&T, Scotiabank, Children's Wish Foundation, IKEA and the Ontario government.


David Silverberg (@silverbergdave) has been a freelance writer for more than 15 years, and has written for The Washington Post, BBC News, The Globe & Mail, Toronto Star, Vice, Buzzfeed, NOW Magazine, Broken Pencil, Quill & Quire, High Times and many more. For more than 11 years, he was the editor-in-chief of online news network Digital Journal. He is also a spoken word poet and is the founder and artistic director of Toronto Poetry Slam, which takes place every two weeks at the Drake Hotel. Find him at davidsilverberg.ca
