On Friday, October 19, 2012, at Wilshire United Methodist Church, 4350 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90010, beginning at 7:00 PM, the Georgia Laster Branch (GLB) of the National Association of Negro Musicians (NANM), Inc. will present their Annual Georgia Laster Branch Scholarship Fundraiser Concert.
Arts and music programs (especially in public schools) are being eliminated. Today, very few schools have such programs.
The goal of the GLB, over the last 50 years, has been to provide financial support to gifted African-American youth studying and preparing for careers in music. The GLB has set their sights to do more, have more and affect more of these gifted youth than ever before. We would like to more than double our annual monetary support for these students.
Your purchase of tickets to this event will help guarantee that the GLB can continue to fulfill our goal.
This evening's concert features internationally recognized countertenor Darryl Taylor, accompanied by well-respected pianist Brett McMunn, and the nationally recognized Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (ICYOLA) conducted by its founder and musical director Maestro Charles Dickerson.
ICYOLA has the distinction of having performed at the dedication and unveiling of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, in Washington, D.C.
This unique opportunity to see and hear these artists together here in Los Angeles is an event you will long remember.
Click on the video clip to see and hear a sampling of the ICYOLA. Also visit www.darryltaylor.com to sample and be moved by Mr. Taylor's artistry.
Again, with your ticket purchase(s), and a generous additional donation, you will have made a major contribution toward the goal of the Georgia Laster Branch.
The GLB is dedicated to and will continue their outreach to the hard-working and dedicated youth in the African-American community, here in Los Angeles, who continue to study and prepare themselves for a life wherein they will be able to share their life-experiences with future generations.
The children are our future.
The GLB motto: Dedicated to the advancement of African-American music and musicians.
