Kipyn Martin and Rachael Kilgour at Casa Phoenix!
Based out of Duluth, MN, singer-songwriter Rachael Kilgour has built a devoted following over the last ten years, captivating audiences with a balance of provocative, topical lyrics, passionate musical delivery, and a charmingly witty stage presence.

Kilgour has performed across the country in coffeehouses, concert series and radio studios as well as protests and picket lines. Shes shared the stage with such folk luminaries as Cheryl Wheeler and Greg Brown and, specifically as of 2015, has made a big splash in the folk world with her vulnerable and driven performances.

Rachael was chosen as the Grand Prize Winner of the 2015 NewSong Music Contest. The win earned her a performance at the ASCAP Cafe at theSundance Film Festival, a future performance of her own at the Lincoln Center in NYC, and an EP recorded and produced in Asheville, NC at the Echo Mountain Studio. Kilgour also took fifth place in the 2015 Telluride Troubadour Competition and was named the winner of the 2015 LEAF Newsong Contest in North Carolina.

Rachael will visit DC during her Midwest/North East pre-release tour in promotion for "Rabbit in the Road", her third studio album. A study in the complexities of grief and transformation, the album takes an intimate and often painful look at a failed marriage and the loss of family. Kilgours writing and delivery cut deep, with resolute simplicity. Sorrow, rage, resilience and compassion exist side by side within a series of honest and memorable melodies. This delicately brutal collection of work stands tall on a foundation of unwavering vulnerability.

Kipyn Martin will be returning to Casa Phoenix for the first time after her artist's residency there in 2015 to join Rachael for a one-night-only performance in DC. Kipyn is an emerging Americana singer/songwriter whose roots sink into the banks of the Shenandoah River. According to folk legend John Gorka, Kipyn is "a beauty of a singer." She currently plays festivals, concert halls, coffeehouses, and house concerts from New England to Texas.

In March 2015 Kipyn was honored by the Washington Area Music Association with their WAMMIE Award for New Artist of the Year. She also received two WAMMIE nominations this year (Contemporary Folk Vocalist, WAMA/SAW Songwriter of the Year). Other accolades include winning Gold, Silver, and 3rd Place Overall in the 2014 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest for "Dance Across the Sky". Songs from Kipyn's debut album, Undercover Muse (2013), have also earned attention on national and international levels. She is currently recording her much-anticipated second album, an EP titled "Dance Across the Sky", slated for release in February of 2017.

Come enjoy a truly unique evening as these songwriters share brand new songs!
