GATE Theater Within Film Series
GATE is pleased to present an exclusive showing of MINDWALK -- a classic, seminal film in the transformational genre. Originally released in 1990 (VHS in 1991, never released on DVD), it is currently out of print and seldom seen on the big screen. With a huge cult following, many have heard about MINDWALK, but few have seen it. This is a rare viewing opportunity. Director Bernt Capra will join GATE founder John Raatz for a Q & A after the screening.
Capra breaks every rule of conventional commercial filmmaking. The result is a brilliant, exhilarating trip into the minds of three individuals: a politician, a poet, and a physicist. Stars Sam Waterston, John Heard and Liv Ulman portray the characters' convictions and opinions with heart and emotion. The script was based on the ecological and holistic teachings of the philosopher, Fritjof Capra. "Mindwalk" is a film for those who live in a world of thinking the unthinkable.
Free parking on site in the lower lot.
BERNT CAPRA BIO
Bernt Capra, also known as Amadeus, is a renaissance man in the true sense of the word. He was raised on a farm in the Austrian Alps but followed his passion for design and ended up in Vienna where he earned a masters degree in architecture. Relocating to Los Angeles, Bernt worked as an architect for a Century City firm. With most friends in the film business, he soon found himself behind a drafting table at Warner Bros.
After a few years,he moved to Rome where he financed his experimental films with acting jobs. Those projects got him his first directing assignments with Austrian TV. Before long, Bernt was back in Malibu, making a name for himself as a Hollywood production designer on "This is Spinal Tap," "Bagdad Café" and "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" His design won an Emmy in 2005 for the HBO series "Carnivale" and most recently, he was production designer for Michael Jackson's tour "This is It." His film directing credits include "Hollywood Horror" and "Mindwalk."
