Rising from the Fog - A Baroque Fusion Event featuring Mauro Valli and the Mandala Ensemble
Come and be a part of this very special night for complete performances of J.S. Bach's Cello Suite No. 2, Gamba Sonata No. 1 and Partita No. 4 on Nov. 17th at Kitchen Chicago 327 N. Bell St. in Chicago.  The Chicago Bach Ensemble and it's artistic director Grammy nominated Jory Vinikour have created an event that centers around J.S. Bachs Cello Suite No. 2 in D minor BWV 1008 and combines it with the remarkable Indian classical form of dance called Bharatnatyam. Legendary Baroque cellist Mauro Valli and the Mandala Ensemble will embark on a collaborative realization of this intensely emotional work. Under the choreography of Pranita (Jain) Nayar and Ashwaty Chennat, the Mandala Ensemble will dance to the music of J.S. Bach as Mauro Valli plays Suite No. 2 on his baroque cello.

Mauro Valli has been a principal cellist and soloist of several leading baroque ensembles in Europe and has played under legendary conductors such as Leonard Bernstein, Carlos Kleiber, George Pretre. His concerts have been transmitted by some of the main radio and  television stations of Europe. For thirty years he has dedicated himself to playing baroque music on original instruments and has made a rediscovery of playing historical instruments such as the five-stringed violoncello piccolo, the Arpeggione and the  Baryton. On November 17th Mauro Valli will be playing the Gamba Sonata on a Violoncello Piccolo!

Mandala Ensemble offers audiences an evocative exploration of the myriad forms of dance and music from the South Asian subcontinent. The Ensemble performances and productions have a connection to ancient and classical traditions and evolve the old into a breath-taking transnational experience.

Jory Vinikour is recognized as one of the outstanding harpsichordists of his generation. He has performed as soloist with leading orchestras including Rotterdam Philharmonic, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonic of Radio France, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, MDR Symphony Orchestra, Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Chamber Orchestra, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, with conductors such as Stéphane Denève, Martin Haselböck, Marek Janowski, Armin Jordan, Benjamin Levy, Fabio Luisi, Marc Minkowski, John Nelson, Gordan Nikolic, Constantine Orbelian, Victor Yampolsky, et al. Mr. Vinikour made his operatic conducting début on 6 August 2016, leading West Edge Opera's [;;;Berkeley, California];;; production of Georg Friedrich Händel's Agrippina and recently the Chicago Opera Theater's production of Henry Purcell's The Fairy Queen in November 2016. Future engagements are in Washington, DC, in December 2016; and in Richmond, Virginia, for Capitol Opera Richmond's production of Mozart's Bastien und Bastienne in February 2017.
