Event

Chocolate and Olive Oil Tasting in the Suisun Valley
Slow Food Solano is partnering with Il Fiorello Olive Oil
Company in a horizon-expanding fundraiser with elements of international intrigue for its Solano County School Garden Grants program. Hosted at the beautiful, new Il Fiorello Olive Oil Company facility in the rolling hills of the Suisun Valley at 2625 Mankas Corner Road, on Sunday, September 2, 2012,from 5 - 7 PM,  the event will acquaint you with the pleasures, production details, regional and varietal differences, and healthful benefits of chocolate and olive oil. The ticket price of $30 per person includes a guided chocolate and olive oil tasting, a chef demo, and artisan made olive oil ice cream with chocolate sauce.

The evening will not be just a simple tasting but will include an educational component led by a delegate from the Kallari Association of cacao growers from the Ecuadorian Amazon, which is one of only two cacao cooperatives to be
recognized with the International Slow Food Presidium award for their heirloom cacao beans.  For example, participants will learn the five key components chocolatiers use to rate a dark chocolate, and the ways to distinguish these characteristics while tasting 9 - 10 samples gourmet dark chocolate from around the world.

Ann and Mark Sievers, owners of Il Fiorello will guide participants in a tasting of their locally produced, award-winning,  premium extra virgin olive oils and talk about the difference between extra virgin olive oils and other grades of oil, often with misleading labels, which do not have the same healthful benefits.

The evening will conclude with a chef demonstration making olive oil ice cream and chocolate sauce and participants enjoying the results. Both chocolate and olive oil will be available for sale after the program.
