Bach Festival 2013: Back Before Bach with Piffaro, The Renaissance Band
J. S. Bach came from a long line of professional musicians, including his father, Ambrosius Bach who was the town piper of the small city of Eisenach in Thuringia. Our early music colleagues, Piffaro, the Renaissance Band will present an exciting program of works based on familiar tunes and chorales as was the practice of the time, with their usual variety of shawms, sackbuts, krummhorns, recorders and other instruments of the period. The program will conclude with the great dramatic motet Es erhub sich ein Streit (There was a dispute) depicting the great war in heaven written by Bach's uncle, Johann Christoph Bach for the Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel. The motet will feature the professional Core Singers of Choral Arts Philadelphia.
