Cornish Preparatory Dance Company CPDC and students in the Preparatory Dance Program at Cornish College of the Arts present 'Nutcracker.' Students from age 6 to 18 bring this classic story to the stage with heart and a bit of humor. These choreographers have captured the essence of the Nutcracker story while giving the students the opportunity to participate in a classical ballet with competence while honoring their particular talents.
Vanesa Wylie, Cornish Preparatory Dance Program (CPDP) Faculty Member and Cornish College of the Arts Alumni will be using her expertise to create a charming party scene with an occasional bit of humor. As well as an exciting battle scene with growing tree, smoke, explosives and many soldiers. Heidi Gans, CPDP Faculty Member, and former New York City Ballet dancer, will be restaging and adding her own choreographic style to the Snow Scene, Chinese, Arabian and Russian divertissements of Act II, The Magic Kingdom. Christine Juarez, CPDP Faculty Member and Cornish Summer Dance Program Director, brings her talents of working with younger performers to the Mother Ginger divertisment. It will surely charm the audience. Leigh-Ann Cohen-Hafford, CPDP Faculty, former dancer with Ballet B.C., and former Artistic Director of Washington Academy of the Performing Arts, brings a whimsical style to the Mirlitons and Spanish Act II Divertissements. Steve Casteel, Preparatory Dance Director, Cornish College of the Arts adjunct faculty member and former soloist with Houston Ballet, has brought his expertise both as a choreographer and coach to the production.
Appropriate for all ages. No Babes in arms. There is a small amount of smoke and a loud bang in the battle scene.
Prep Dance Alumni and Alumni Parents - join us on Friday evening before the show for our Annual Alumni Reception. Connect with former dance friends and teachers.
