We stopped reserving space 12 hours prior to the party so we could schedule all the people that wanted to be interviewed. You can still come to the party but we cannot guarantee we will be able to interview you.

PLACAS: Tattoo Film Shoot Party
Note: The party is free to enter and open to the public (we will accept donations!). But if you would like to be one of the people chosen for interview on camera you must RSVP prior to the day of the event.

The San Francisco International Arts Festival, the Central American Resource Center, Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts and the cast of PLACAS want to know about your tattoos.

More specifically we want to know why you got your tattoo(s) and of what significance it/they are to you. And we would like to record your story on video for posterity.

We have commissioned video journalist Josue Rojas to make a film as a companion piece to the play PLACAS starring Ric Salinas of Culture Clash that will premiere at the Lorraine Hansberry Theater on September 6.

So on Saturday August 18 starting at 6:30pm we will be hosting a party at Mission Cultural Center and we are turning the theatre into a film studio where Salinas, playwright Paul Flores and the cast of PLACAS will be interviewing members of the public about their placas.

Flores said of the occasion, "Tattoos have become a fashion phenomenon. Everyone is wearing them. But getting a tattoo is different to shopping for shoes, clothes or other fashion accessories. It is a decision and a commitment that makes a fundamental statement about how you want to represent yourself. Even the most humble or frivolous tattoo has a deeper meaning for the person who got it burned onto their body. As we get ready to premiere PLACAS; a story about war, street gangs, redemption and the implications of tattoo removal, we thought we would compare the meanings and significance of gang tattoos with those of the rest of the population."

The evening will also feature the chance to hang out with the cast of PLACAS and get an inside scoop on the new production, experience the music spun by DJ Aztec Parrot, tattoo demonstrations, food, drinks and lots more.

So join us for a party and tell the story behind your most prized placa. You will get discounted tickets to the show and the chance to star in a film about your tattoo experience.

Note: The party is free to enter and open to the public (we will accept donations!). But if you would like to be one of the people chosen for interview on camera you must RSVP prior to the day of the event.

Please join us for a performance of PLACAS Starring Ric Salinas in September!
